Portland Transplant Office - Lodging
The Portland VAMC Transplant Program provides lodging for the potential recipient, donor
and designated support person(s). The Lodging units are located less than 10 miles from the
Portland VAMC. Lodging information for

If I live outside the Portland VAMC service area, where will I stay?
The transplant program provides lodging for those recipients, donors
and designated support person(s) who live outside the
Portland VAMC service area. Any other family members must make their own transportation and lodging arrangements
and may select any motel. Check the
Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau website for a complete listing of accommodations in
Portland.
What services are provided at the Lodging Unit?
The Lodging Unit has 32 guest rooms. Services include laundry, shared kitchens in the common areas, a free shuttle service to and from the VAMC and even a pool table. The Lodging Unit offers a courtesy shuttle service to the VAMC at regularly scheduled times from 6:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. This service is free of charge to all registered guests and their families.
How will I know when to come to the VAMC?
You will have received your information packet in the mail with your schedule. In addition, the Social Worker will call previous to your arriving in Portland.
Is the cost of meals included in the on-site visit?
No, the cost of meals is not included but there is a large and very generous volunteer service that provides food by making weekly deliveries. In addition, there are nearby grocery stores within walking distance.
You will need to bring enough money with you to pay for the rest of your meals, as well as any incidental and/or unexpected expenses.
Are there any restaurants within walking distance of the Lodging
Unit?
There are several fast-food restaurants, as well as others specializing in pizza, steaks, seafood
and ethnic cuisine, including Chinese, Mexican and Thai.
