Kidney Transplant Program
When patients discover their renal disease has reached the point
where kidney transplant surgery becomes a possibility, they need
accurate information as well as the highest quality of care. The
Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is committed to
providing excellence in medical care to veterans. The Portland VAMC
Kidney Transplant Program, in cooperation with the Oregon Health and
Science University (OHSU), has provided this high level of care
since 1959. To date, there have been nearly 3300 kidney transplants
performed in this cooperative VAMC/OHSU. This website is intended
to provide potential kidney transplant recipients, donors, and
family members with some basic information about kidney
transplantation and about the VAMC/Oregon Health and Science
University. Our goal is to dispel myths, calm fears, and encourage
living donor transplantation. The information provided in this website is not intended as a
substitute for professional medical advice or professional health
care. Only your physician can diagnose and treat a medical
condition.
