Referral/Consultation

Veterans with movement disorders receive health & medical services at the Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center (PADRECC) for specialized treatment. One such treatment now offered at the PADRECC is Deep Brain Stimulation.

To receive care at the NW PADRECC patients are typically referred to the clinic by a primary care physician (referring physician). Although patients are not required to have a primary care physician to qualify for care, this is usually how new patients are introduced to the PADRECC.

Referrals for Care

Physicians outside the VA may refer a patient to the NW PADRECC through our Access and Referral Line:
phone: 877-228-0174 (this line is for referring physicians only)
fax: 360-759-1688

Physicians within the VA, please use the CPRS new consult form.

After a referral is received and assessed as appropriate for the Movement Disorders Clinic, the PADRECC clinical coordinator reviews the information to schedule a new patient appointment (consultation), usually within six to eight weeks of the received referral.

At the consultation, each patient meets with a neurologist for potential diagnosis, information regarding his/her movement disorder, treatment options, and, if appropriate, educational material for both patient and caregiver.

Follow-up appointments and meetings with our rehabilitation medicine therapist and pharmacist are scheduled as needed for medical management.

Our goal is to return patients to their primary care physician or neurologist in the community.

If the PADRECC is not the best option for care, the patient may then be referred to the appropriate medical program for an appointment.
