General Practice Residency in Dentistry

The Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center offers a general practice residency in dentistry program approved by the American Dental Association and affiliated with the Oregon Health Sciences University.

The Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is located on a hillside within Sam Jackson Park and overlooks the city of Portland and the Cascade Range, including Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. This area is known as the medical and dental center for the entire state of Oregon and southwestern Washington. In addition to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Oregon Health Sciences University Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, and Nursing, and the University Hospitals, are located nearby.

The Medical Center includes a tertiary-care hospital, nursing home care unit, several rehab units, an outpatient clinic and a nursing home. In all, there are 622 beds available. Over 400 residents rotate through the Medical Center each year in the various specialties of medicine, surgery and allied health fields. The Medical Center and its satellite outpatient clinics provide over 218,000 outpatient visits annually. There is an active research program, excellent medical library, and a full-service medical media department.

Residents must meet the following requirements:

  • Be citizens of the United States
  • Be graduates of an accredited North American Dental School by the ADA.
  • Have passed the National Board Examination - Part 1.
  • Acquire a Postdoctoral Dental Match Program Code.
