The Alaska VA Healthcare System and Regional Office offers primary, specialty, and mental health outpatient care. Services are provided through a Joint Venture with the United States Air Force on nearby Elmendorf Air Force Base, as well as through fee-based arrangements with community hospitals. The facility also features a comprehensive Homeless Veteran Service, consisting of a Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, Veterans Industries, Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, VA Supported Housing Program, and outreach.

The Boise VAMC provides highly sophisticated primary and secondary care with some tertiary services. Additionally, the Boise VAMC has sharing agreements with Mountain Home Air Force Base, Indian Health Service, U.S. Forest Service, State of Idaho, and community health facilities. Areas of investigation include aging, clinical pharmacology, neuro-pharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, pulmonary physiology and pharmacology, immuno-pharmacology, infectious disease, and physician diagnosis.

Southern Oregon is also home to Roseburg, an ideal spot to enjoy the splendor of both the Hundred Valleys of the Umpqua and the Cascade Mountains. To the west, the Oregon Coast delivers many breathtaking sites, including the impressive Astoria-Megler Bridge, which stands above the mouth of the Columbia River.

Portland VAMC
Portland, Oregon
Located across two campuses in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington, the Portland VAMC is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of primary, tertiary, and long-term care. Areas of focus are specific to medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Special programs also include liver and renal transplant -- as well as the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research; Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC); Parkinson's Disease Research, Education & Clinical Center (PADRECC); Multiple Sclerosis Center for Excellence; and Hepatitis C Virus Resource Center.

Further, a 72-bed Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center on the Vancouver campus serves the entire four-state network. The Center offers extended care rehabilitation, psycho-geriatric care, and general nursing home care -- as well as outpatient clinic services.

The VA SORCC serves as a regional and national resource for underserved special populations, including the homeless, chronically mentally ill, and substance abuse. The VA SORCC provides quality residential treatment in psychiatry, addictions, medicine, bio-psychosocial, and physical and vocational rehabilitation. Special programs include Intensive Case Management, Day Treatment Program, Experiential Learning Program, and Substance Abuse Program.

VA Puget Sound Health Care System
Seattle, Washington
Spread across Seattle and Tacoma, the VA Puget Sound serves as the largest facility in the VA Northwest Health Network. The facility provides tertiary care, and conducts active telemedicine clinics in cardiology, dermatology, surgery, and home spinal cord injury care, as well as a regional Tumor Board to deliver health care services over distances. Inpatient medical care is provided to veterans in the South Sound via a sharing agreement with Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis.

Additionally, the VA Puget Sound plays a major role in training the next generation of health care professionals with nearly $9 million in funding for education and training programs. Through partnerships with the University of Washington and 50 other academic institutions, over 500 medical residents and 1,000 allied health professionals in dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, social work, public health, and other health care programs train here.

The Spokane VA Medical Center focuses on primary and secondary care, as well as nursing home care -- with an emphasis on preventive health and chronic disease management. Special programs include Health Care for the Homeless, Veterans Mental Health, Vietnam Veterans Outreach Center, Hospice Care, Substance Abuse, Residential Rehabilitation, and Women Veterans. In addition, a Rural Mobile Clinic, outfitted with two exam rooms, provides selected primary care services to veterans living in remote areas outside the metropolitan Spokane area.

The VAMC Walla Walla provides comprehensive primary, secondary, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, psychiatry, dentistry, gastroenterology, optometry, and extended care. The VAMC Walla Walla further operates a Homeless Veterans Service Program consisting of outreach activities, a Compensated Work Therapy Program, and the Veterans Industries Program.
