Welcome to the Boise VA Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Boise, the State Capital of Idaho, is a part of Ada County. It is situated in the valley of the river from which it takes its name. Boise is located midway between Portland, Oregon and Salt Lake City, Utah, on Interstate 84 not far from the Oregon border.

The Boise River itself is a common destination for fishing, swimming and rafting.

Prior to the arrival of European and Mexican explorers, Native Americans representing two distinct groups inhabited Idaho: the Great Basin Shoshone and Bannock tribes of the Shoshone-Bannock and the Shoshone. Paiute and the Plateau tribes of the Coeur d'Alene, Nez Perce and Kootenai. In the mid-1800s thousands of pioneers passed through Idaho on the Oregon Trail. In 1890, Idaho became the 43rd state.
